Sony Security Breach: What You Need to Know About Your Legal Rights
HHK&C’s Atlanta-based law firm, Herman Gerel, L.L.P., is involved in a putative class action lawsuit against global gaming company Sony on behalf of Sony PlayStation users and purchasers who allege that a recent breach of the online PlayStation Network and Qriocity service compromised their personal and financial information, including names, addresses, email addresses, passwords, logins, security questions and credit card data. The case, Mitchell v. Sony Computer Entertainment America, LLC, et al., No. 11-03601, was filed on April 27, 2011 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California on behalf of people in the United States whose privacy rights were violated or who were exposed to the risk of fraud or identity theft. Herman Gerel is joined by Motley Rice, Ridout & Lyon LLP and Zimmerman Reed LLP to represent the plaintiff and putative class members. On April 26, 2011, Sony acknowledged that some users' account information was compromised between April 17, 2011 and April 19, 2011; a breach potentially affecting more than 70 million users worldwide. Since then, multiple lawsuits have been filed against the company for its alleged failure to protect users’ personal data. Since the breach, the FBI has launched an inquiry and set up an agency hotline (858-565-1255). If you maintained a subscription to and were a member of the PlayStation Network / Qriocity Service between April 17 and April 19, 2011, and believe your personal and financial data was compromised, you may be eligible to participate in the Sony putative class action lawsuit. If you are interested in learning more about your legal rights, please contact our call center by calling Herman Gerel, LLP today at 1-800-493-2827 or contact us through the website at www.gamerslawsuit.com.
